10 Things
We’ve spent many years working in large organisations and we’ve seen a lot of the snake oil that passes for learning theories and methodologies. We’ve seen well intentioned solutions fail and great ideas crash and burn. We’ve seen the improbable succeed and the unlikely make a difference.
From all of this experience we’ve drawn up 10 key elements and principles. These show the unique blend of skills and experience that we can bring to your business.
- Really good learning has got to be backed by science. No fad diets or learning styles here.
- You want to work with vibrant people, not automatons. That means we’ll have opinions and we’ll share them. Respectfully, of course!
- The key to learning is motivation. If we can motivate you to care, we can help you learn.
- User experience is hugely important. Real people have to use your content. Treat them as though you actually like them.
- Learning doesn’t have to cost the earth to be effective and it’s better to support the learner with simple resources at their moments of need, than load them with fancy courses weeks in advance.
- Nothing is hard. There are lots of things that are complex, but that’s not the same. Hard is a state of mind that makes things harder.
- Visual design is important but not as important as you probably think. Just because something is pretty doesn’t mean it’s good.
- Simulations are best when they’re closest to the real situation but simulation fidelity (how life-like and realistic it is) is not as important as story fidelity.
- Short content is better. It’s easy to change it when it’s out of date and easy to skip if it’s not relevant to your role.
- Sometimes you need to make a leap of faith.
